VPICU announces partnership with Stryker Communications Corp.  - October 1, 2001

Stryker Communications Corp., a nationally recognized leader in telecommunications equipment has been selected as the vendor to provide $1.5 million in engineering and peripheral equipment to facilitate real time interactive telecommunication between telemedicine network sites. Specifically designed and installed IP backbone with gateway and gatekeeper capability will route multiple calls via ISDN to participating VPICU intensivists. The gateway has the capability to accept telemedicine communication over multiple broadband types including T-1, DSL, ISDN and POTS.

Plans for remote site functionality include transmission of stethoscopy, data feeds from EKG and vital sign monitoring as well as radiology views. This, combined with sight and sound transmitted at 384 k will allow assessment, consultation and decision making among colleagues over the network which will cover an estimated 7,500 square miles
