The VPICU Directors are made up of pediatric intensivists and professionals from across the country that found themselves with common ideas and goals for advancing their subspecialty practice, education and communication.
In 1998 this group found themselves discussing frequently in ad hoc meetings issues with common threads and no current formalized method for addressing them. This discovery led to formalized meetings with agendas for addressing a key question of how to treat critically ill children in this country "more than one at a time."
The result of these meetings has been the mission statement, problem identification, goals and approaches you see described within this website. The diversity in terms of practice and location you see listed in the biographies of this group are in large part the strength of the Laura P. and Leland K. Whittier VPICU.
The Directors have continued to work collaboratively on achieving these goals.
